High jewellery: an exhibition showcases the sketches of the most beautiful jewellery

Journal du Luxe

Long in the archives, jewellery design is back in the spotlight in a unique exhibition organised by the Petit Palais in Paris. Boucheron, Cartier, Lalique... Visitors will discover the creations of the greatest jewellers on paper.

It is a stage of creation that has long remained in the shadows. And yet, the design is one of the key elements in designing the most beautiful jewellery. In the spring of 2025, the Petit Palais will unveil a collection of nearly 5,700 drawings and models previously kept in the darkness of the reserves.

In detail, the exhibition will detail the creative process of high jewellery designers, from their sources of inspiration - museum objects, collections of ornaments, pieces of nature - to preparatory sketches, including the colouring known as "gouaches", and sometimes even three-dimensional models.

A fun journey designed as an immersion in the heart of the workshops of the greatest designers, showcasing different brands and styles, such as Lalique, Cartier but also Rouvenat and Boucheron. "By unfolding this time of creation, the exhibition will cross eras and styles, mixing jewellery designs from the Second Empire with those of Art Deco, the historicizing styles of the second half of the nineteenth century with Art Nouveau," details the Parisian museum.
